Head of Project (m/f), DRR emergency preparedness and response

in Farafangana, Madagascar

The post is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial term of 6 months. The field location is Farafangana in Madagascar.

Objectives and responsibilities of the position

Welthungerhilfe will implement a DRR project in the south east of Madagascar. The project’s goal is to strengthen local actors in disaster and risk management, emergency preparedness and responses towards different hazards such as cyclones and floods.

Your most important duties are as follows:

§ Represent Welthungerhilfe and coordinate the project concept and planned project activities with local decision-makers and other aid agencies and development organisations operating in the project area

§ Identify and train human WHH’s national human resources on DRR/DRM, emergency preparedness and response concepts

§ Support the country office in the development of an emergency preparedness plan

§ Ensure the transfer of management skills to local staff

  • Ensure orderly financial and material expenses planning

§ Develop and write high quality proposals

  • Ensure the required flow of information and public transparency of the project work within the country

Your qualifications will include:

  • a university or technical degree in international development, humanitarian aid or a comparable specialized qualification suitable to the position
  • Experience (minimum of 03 years) in the management and implementation of emergency projects and DRR
  • a high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Experienced in collaboration with ECHO, United Nations organizations (WFP / FAO) and familiarity with their procedures
  • Knowledge of SPHERE and other standards for humanitarian response
  • Knowledge of the emergency context in the southwest Indian Ocean basin,
  • Valid license to drive a motorcycle of up to 200cm³
  • coordination and organisational skills - even under a high workload
  • cooperation skills and ability to work in a team
  • a very good command of French and English, both spoken and written
