Organisational background:
Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger) has been conducting humanitarian programs in Somalia since May 1992. Currently, Action Against Hunger is conducting its humanitarian activities in Somalia focused on treating and preventing malnutrition, increasing access to clean water and appropriate sanitation, strengthening the food-security, livelihoods and thus boosting the resilience of communities in Somalia as well as emergency response via program bases in Somalia.
Goal: The OTP Vaccinator is responsible of vaccinating the beneficiaries.
Responsibilities: Action Against Hunger Somalia is looking for suitable Somali National to fill the OTP Vaccinatorposition, based in Garowe IDP Camp. Reports to the Nutrition Field Officer, and his/her core responsibilities shall include but not limited to the following:
Objective 1 : Manage and follow the immunizations :
- Check the immunization booklet of beneficiaries : check vaccinations received before proceeding;
- Check the expiry date, batch number and the vial monitors of the vaccines;
- Administer the required vaccines by respecting hygienic rules and the EPI protocols ;
- Update the immunization booklet of beneficiaries;
- Follow the nurse’s prescription;
- Fill in the card and the immunization register ;
- Order vaccines and manage stocks: vaccines, needles, syringes, cotton, etc.
- Check compliance with the cold chain to ensure potency of vaccines.
Objective 2 : Ensure the hygiene of the immunization room :
- Supervise the disinfection of the immunization room ;
- Dispose used equipment in the incinerators.
- Ensure that aseptic procedures are followed; presence of sharps container, safety boxes and water and soap for hand washing.
Objective 3 : Write activity reports :
- Record daily administered vaccines and write a consumption report ;
- Write a monthly activity report for the project manager.
Objective 4 : Participate in health education :
- Inform and sensitise staff on hygiene protocols in terms of vaccination and iatrogenic risks (due to poor hygiene or inappropriate practices) ;
- Inform and sensitise beneficiaries and accompanying persons on the importance of immunization.
Who we are looking for:
Educational / Professional Background :
- Secondary school studies
- Assistant nurse or experience in health care
Required Competence & Skills :
- Good communication skills ;
- Patience ;
- Ability to follow protocols ;
- Ability to take initiatives ;
- Good team work spirit ;
- Rigorous and precise at work ;
- Knowledge of local languages ;
- Knowledge of English.
