OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Our client is seeking experienced Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainers to conduct intensive 3-month training courses on select vocations, as well as business management trainings. This contract receives day to day and week to week oversight from the line manager and other staff. Overall contract performance management is jointly monitored and evaluated by our client and government partner. Our client will undertake contracting obligations and remuneration.

IOM is seeking experienced trainers in:

  • Masonry

  • Welding

  • Tailoring

  • Electrical

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Role objective:

The Trainers will work full time as per Somali Labour Laws, performing the below duties and responsibilities:

Expected output:

Participate in the orientation of students at the start of the courses to support them in making informed choices about their vocations.

Conduct theoretical and practical instruction of trainees in the specified area of specialization.

Develop and prepare appropriate training materials for efficient and effective delivery of the skills.

Conduct continuous assessment of learners and ensure that they clearly understand the skills.

Regularly monitoring and reporting on the students’ progress in written form.

Participate in new training curriculum development that suits the market needs.

Responsible for proper management of training materials, tools and equipment.

Ensure proper utilization of all project training materials, tools and equipment.

Ensure training materials, tools and equipment are safely stored after use by students

Responsible for basic repairs of machines, tools and equipment while executing duties.

Prepare the learners to face life positively and with self-confidence and independence.

Provide professional guidance and advice to students on future job aspirations.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Education:

§ Diploma in Technical Education in respective field Diploma in teaching would be an advantage and/or Diploma in Teaching would be an advantage.

Work experience:

§ Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant Training experience.

Geographical experience:

§ Minimum of 5 years of experience in Africa with local experience in Kismayo is an advantage.

Languages:

§ Fluency in English and Somali are essential.

Key competencies:

Demonstrable experience in the relevant vocation of 5 years or more.

At least 2 years relevant experience in hands on training on relevant vocation.

Qualified applicants must demonstrate expertise both practical and theoretical in an interview process, including: past work, indicative curriculum for training/lesson plans.

Other relevant information:

Internals of the Organization and NMS candidates, as well as external female candidates, will be considered as first-tier candidates. This vacancy is also open to second-tier candidates.

The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances.
