The total salary package for this position is£74,612 - £82,568 per annum including basic salary, hardship allowance, programme management allowance and cost of living allowance.
About MAG in Somalia:
MAG first worked in Somalia in 2001 and has had a sustained presence in the country since 2008. The MAG Somalia programme is operating in a complex political and security environment with operations firmly established in Somaliland, Puntland and Mogadishu. The main area of focus in Somalia is Arms Management & Destruction (AMD). Additionally MAG is also training partners to provide Mine and ERW Risk Education across increasing areas of South Central Somalia.
About the role:
MAG operates a number of AMD projects, aimed at strengthening national level capacities managing weapons and ammunition systematically and safely. These projects include building new and secure armouries, repairing and upgrading existing storage facilities and supporting safer storage of explosives. These activities provide a continuous benefit to State and National authorities and enable discussions about weapons marking and record keeping. As soon as possible those conversations should expand to weapons destruction and munitions management. We are also planning to upgrade and expand our Risk Education programme Nationwide. We are seeking a Technical Operations Manager to lead, oversee and safely manage all aspects of our AMD operations. They will also manage and provide technical support to the construction and Risk Education teams.
Working closely with and reporting to the Country Director, you will provide high quality technical input into proposals and reports, liaising with donors and government agencies. As a member of the Programme Senior Management Team you will need to demonstrate considerable experience of working strategically and ensuring the quality and efficiency of MAG’s work.
About you:
You will need to show previous experience of successfully managing AMD projects in challenging and geographically diverse environments. This should include experience of SALW and Ammunition Management, with technical qualifications as an ATO (or equivalent) desirable. Previous experience in the humanitarian sector is desirable but not essential. You will however have experience of leading and managing national and international staff and of building relationships with national authorities, local partners, donors and NGOs. You should have the ability to represent MAG at the highest levels and be able to work diplomatically in a politically sensitive and unpredictable environment. The successful candidate will support and travel between all our bases in the programme, that are often remote with basic amenities. Applicants will therefore need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments.
