MISSION
A complex emergency is unfolding in the Kasai region in DRC, as result of inter-community tensions and clashes between different groups. Protection concerns and mental health distress have been reported. These include physical mutilation, sexual violence, killings and detention in inhuman conditions. As result, 30.000 refugees have fled across the border to Angola, the expected refugee numbers by December 2017 is 50.000.
Improve the mental health status, psychosocial wellbeing and protection of the refugee population in Cacanda, Mussungue reception centres and Louva camp through the delivery of community based MHPSS care and quality SGBV activities
The Mental Health & Psychosocial Coordinator will be part of an emergency team set up by MdM to respond to the humanitarian refugee crisis in Lunda Norte. He/she will be responsible of coordinating the MHPSS components of the project and the team in the field.
MHPSS Coordinator will be in charge of ensuring appropriate mental health psychosocial care is delivered to the refugee population living in camps and host communities. She/he will be en charge of setting a MHPSS program aligned with IASC guidelines.
The program has a strong protection component, specifically targeting SGVB/IPV survivors.
GEOGRAPHICAL SCOPE OF INTERVENTION
The successful candidate will be based in Dundo, Lunda Norte.
ORGANIZATION CHART
All activities will be developed in close collaboration with the SGBV coordinator in order to ensure the effectiveness of the project.
He/she will report to the Project Coordinator in Lunda Norte and to the Emergency Unit of MdM-Spain - a regular follow up will be established with the MHPSS technical referent.
FUNCTIONS
? Ongoing assessment of MHPSS needs in the project and ensure a psychosocial approach.
? Be part of the coordination team and coordinate a team of psychosocial workers in field.
? Identify existing national/international guidelines/protocols regarding MHPSS in order to ensure they fulfill international standards.
? Responsible of capacity building of the psychosocial team (training in specific topics/approaches relevant to the intervention)
? Coordinate and conduct -if necessary-trainings in Psychological First Aid, PFA, for workers/volunteers directly intervening with refugees and how to respectfully and supportively engage with survivors and provide compassionate care.
? Coordinate the intervention strategy of the psychosocial team including SGVB/IPV and complex cases.
? Partnership with stakeholders for the setting up of effective referral pathways
? Develop an appropriate M&E system.
