Background:

Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid (HIJRA) is an international African humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization that positively contributes towards improving the living standards and conditions of those adversely affected by disasters and conflict in the Horn, East & Central Africa by implementing WASH, Health, Education, Livelihoods, Community service & development and Protection programs in the region for a period of more than 20 years.

HIJRA with funding from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund is implementing a health Project in Afgooye district, Lower Shabelle region and Hodan and Wadajir districts, Banadir region. HIJRA, in a strategy to expand the existing project implementing team, is now seeking to recruit qualified persons willing to offer their professional services to the health project in the following capacity:

Overall Objective of the Position

The Medical Docotor will work in collaboration with other hospital personnel to provide quality patient care in HIJRA health centers . The time frame for his or her work in these HIJRA supported health centers will be determined by the particular needs of each health center during the contract period .

Responsibilities

¬ Conducts outpatient clinics

¬ Participates in outreach clinics

¬ Supervises health personnel under his/her management.

¬ Together with EPI officer, supervise drug consumption, prepare consumption reports and submit requests for medical supplies.

¬ Actively participates in health staff meetings.

¬ Participate in the preparation of monthly medical activity reports for inclusion in the weekly monthly , quarterly and annually report.

¬ Participates in co-ordination meetings with other partners .

¬ Identify training needs of national health workers and participates in training programs.

¬ Participate in the assessment of the community health needs in the lower shabelle and Bnadir regions

¬ Participates in the recruitment and supervision of locally recruited health personnel.

¬ Participates in the training of all medical staff and local partner staff to ensure the maximum use of their skills and their full and effective participation in medical activities

¬ Together with other project personnel responsible for encouraging community participation in health activities to ensure the long term ownership and effectiveness of the programme.

¬ Reports to Health Coordinator on his/her activities

¬ Conducts any other activity requested by his or her immediate supervisor

Personal/Professional Requirements:

Essential

¬ Qualified Medical Doctor with clinical experience in hospital environment.

¬ Excellent management and personnel skills to enable the motivation, encouragement and participation of national health team members

¬ Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with local health personnel in Ceelbuur district.

¬ Ability to work with a team while developing and implementing programs.

¬ Ability to assess evolving health needs quickly and calmly under pressure as required.

¬ Excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English and experience in report writing.

¬ Good computer skills to allow reporting and representation.

¬ Excellent computer skills to allow data analysis and reporting
