Country: Madagascar
Closing date: 31 Jan 2017
PIVOT (www.pivotworks.org), a health systems strengthening NGO working on the border of the Ranomafana National Park in rural Madagascar, seeks physicians interested in supporting clinical programs at the hospital, health center, and community levels. In partnership with the Malagasy Ministry of Health and modeled in part after our sister organization, Partners in Health, PIVOT seeks to support Ifanadiana District in becoming a model health district in Madagascar.
Hospital: PIVOT is working with Ministry of Health partners to transform the district hospital into a dignified, life-saving facility by improving the quality of staffing, equipment, facilities, and training on procedures and processes. With this strong collaboration, the district hospital has recently inaugurated a new laboratory and upgraded emergency services.
Health Center: PIVOT supports 20 health centers in Ifanadiana District through medication reimbursement that removes the financial barrier of prescription and supply costs for patients and by supporting joint recruitment with the Ministry of Health to bring staffing levels to government norms. In several key health centers, PIVOT staff directly support malnutrition and other clinical programming.
Community: PIVOT supports networks of community health workers who serve as liaisons between the rural villages and the health centers, often more than a day’s walk for our patients. Our community teams train the nationally mandated, locally selected community volunteers, provide supplies and support their relationships with the health system.
PIVOT’s clinical staff consists of a small team of Malagasy physicians and Malagasy nurses as well as social workers, ambulance drivers, and a handful of expatriate clinicians. We are currently seeking to expand support to our clinical services with physicians interested in mentorship and the delivery of high quality health care working hand in hand with our growing team.
Qualified candidates will be physicians (MD required) with extensive clinical experience in limited resource settings, a minimum of three years’ experience in global health, and a proven academic commitment to a health systems strengthening approach.
Candidates must be fluent in French and English, interested in living 100% time in rural, remote Madagascar, and willing to make a 2-year commitment.
